Hi there! My name is Hugo Clancy, and I’ve been involved in the plantation shutter business since 2002.
My business, Shutterplus, specialises in DIY plantation shutters, either ready-made for the customer to fit themselves, or components supplied, for the shutters to be made from scratch. We also specialise in repair and replacement parts for plantation shutters.
Back in 2002, we were one of the first to start manufacturing shutters this side of the Atlantic, and remarkably, more than 10 years later, there are still very few companies in the UK or Ireland making shutters.
Of course this has been down to the availability of cheaper imports, mostly from China.
Customers often ask us for a British-made shutter that they would like measured and installed for them, but unfortunately we don’t do surveys or installations.
Coincidently, since the start of 2013, we’ve noticed a very definite interest among window covering manufacturers and retailers here, in having their product made closer to home.
The obvious reason for this is shorter lead times for the customer, but also, wages are rising each year in China, and this, combined with increasing shipping costs, suddenly make the figures look more attractive.
We stock everything you’ll need to get started in shutter manufacturing. The capital outlay in terms of stock and equipment is very small, so if it’s something you might be interested, contact me and I’ll be glad to have a chat!
